Toni Byrd is a world-renowned jazz singer celebrated for her smooth, cinematic voice and deeply expressive performances.

A Voice With Cinematic Soul

Toni Byrd is a vocalist whose sound feels like a scene from a movie—warm, expressive, and rich with emotional depth. Raised in Memphis, she carries the city’s musical spirit in her soul. Her father, Lionel Byrd of the 1960s group The 4 Kings, filled her world with gospel, jazz, R&B, pop, funk, and country, shaping her into an artist who sings with both history and heart.

Early Inspirations & Artistic Roots

Guided by the voices of Nat King Cole, Nancy Wilson, Roberta Flack, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, and Leontyne Price, Toni learned early that a song is more than melody—it’s storytelling. That understanding became the foundation of her artistry when she stepped onto her first professional stage in 1996, bringing a cinematic presence that would become her signature. Her journey began even earlier, with her first recording appearance in 1979 on a live project produced by Stax Records legend David Porter. She later recorded with the Stellar Award–nominated Billy Rivers & The Angelic Voices of Faith, grounding her sound in both spiritual depth and technical mastery.

Recording Artist & Creative Voice

Toni’s debut jazz project, No Greater Love… Remembering Billie Holiday (2010), showcased her interpretive power—honoring the past while making every phrase unmistakably her own. In 2017, she expanded her palette with Forever You’re My God, a Gospel Jazz project that earned four Rhythm of Gospel Award nominations and highlighted her ability to blend genres with elegance and authenticity.

Film, Television & Storytelling Beyond the Stage

Her artistry extends into film and television. In 2012, Toni appeared as Ida Belle in the feature film Lawless, directed by John Hillcoat, and contributed vocals to the television pilot Still the King. These projects revealed her versatility as both a vocalist and performer.

Stages Around the World

Toni’s voice has carried her across the globe—from the UK to Portugal, Berlin to the Czech Republic, and throughout the U.S. She has graced stages such as The Jazz Corner, Tuskegee University, The Jazz Loft, Mercedes‑Benz Stadium, The Rialto Center for the Arts, and The Fox Theatre.

She became the first female vocalist to perform at the American grand opening of Pinewood Studios and was invited to sing at the White House under the Obama Administration.

Collaborations & Musical Legacy

Toni has performed alongside Grammy‑winning legends like Peabo Bryson, Gladys Knight, Kenny G, Alex Bugnon, Wycliffe Gordon, Vickie Winans, and Take 6. In 2021, she shared unforgettable duets with Peabo Bryson, cementing her place among celebrated vocalists. She’s also graced the stage at after‑parties for Norman Brown, Eric Darius, Richard Elliot, George Benson, and Boney James.
